Give to Grow

My favorite book is “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield. Why? Because he writes all of his dialogues to fit onto 1-2 pages. The messages he conveys are short but pack a punch.

Through reading his work, I have noticed that it isn’t about the amount of content you give to the world, it is the quality of the content you give.

Which has enabled my recent interest in the term “giving”.

Growing up, we were all told to “give without expecting anything in return”. But we were never really taught what the word “Give” actually means.

Through experiences as children, we “give” by donating our time at our church soup kitchen, giving our time to the community by helping with a fundraiser, etc. But some of us were never taught the true definition of what it means to “Give”. So as we grow older, we tend to think of giving in a way we thought of it as children or through monetary donation.

But to “Give” seems to be a way we can live our lives to lift each other and grow together.

We can give by donating our energy to others to bring out their ambition so they can see their true potential. This helps self-belief.

We can give our time to someone who needs someone to talk to. This helps emotional health.

We can give advice to someone who asks for it. This helps someone see their vision more clearly.

We can give our experiences to others. This helps them avoid making the same mistakes we did or helps them find a solution to their problem.

We can give an experience to someone (e.g. a trip, nice dinner, tickets to a game, etc.). This helps inspire them to reach for more and continue growing.

Giving can be more than working in our church soup kitchen or giving monetary donations.

Give by inspiring someone to be their best self so they can give their best self to someone else.
